Cardiac MRI showed functional parameters, such as LVEF. Cardiac FAP volume was determined by PET imaging and the area of injury was defined by SPECT imaging. In their study, the German researchers showed that the activity of fibroblast cells was strongly correlated with tissue characteristics from cardiac MRI, a standard test for measuring LVEF.Īll 35 patients underwent Ga-68 FAPI-46 PET/CT scans, as well as standard perfusion SPECT and cardiac MRI within 11 days after a heart attack. Moreover, fibroblast cells have been shown to be highly active during this molecular process. LVEF is typically reduced in patients after heart attack as the heart muscle undergoes "remodeling" in response to injury. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is the measurement of how much blood is being pumped out of the left ventricle of the heart with each contraction. "The early PET signal exhibited a stronger correlation to at follow-up, suggesting a relationship between the extent of fibroblast activation and worse ventricle remodeling," said nuclear cardiologist Dr. Johanna Diekmann during a presentation before the award announcement. The team found that the FAPI-PET signal in injured heart muscle predicted heart dysfunction in patients more than four months later. Using a gallium-68-labeled (Ga-68) radiotracer designed to bind to fibroblast cells (Ga-68 FAPI-46), a group from Hannover Medical School in Germany performed fibroblast-activation protein inhibitor (FAPI)-PET imaging in 35 patients several days after they experienced a heart attack. So when i saw the game on Steam all these years later on a Windows 7 laptop with wi-fi, my nostalgia kicked in and i played the demo again, waiting for a sale on the actual title to happen.įor some reason this game never seems to go one sale, which was upsetting. No needing to worry about pausing the game and coming back to it - it's a game you run in the background while you do your actual work. It was perfect when i needed to get homework done or needed to practice my typing skills because it ran on real time. I always played the demo version, but i always found myself loving this game. com which as described above - was one of those sites where you could play the game on the site as a demo version or download a full version for free that would ask you if you wanted to purchase the title from their server after a timer ran out. I played it on a website called Shockwave. So i often played games on the internet on my old Windows XP computer. I had stopped going to normal school and spent nearly all of my time inside the house because i wasn't allowed to go outside. My personal history with this game: I was a lonely shut-in middle schooler. Games like Plant Tycoon would often be found on gaming websites or the game sections of popular social networking sites where you could play the game on the website as a limited demo version or download a free full version for a limited time before a timer ran out and asked you if you liked the full game and if you wanted to buy it from their service. A very light-weight game that brings you back to a time where micro-transactions were nonexistant and you could happily farm, plant, whatever without having to hand over your credit card, watch ads or praticipate in a shady promotion.Ī little history lesson: Before tablet games saturated the video game market with free titles you could download and turning out to be micro-transaction riddled hooplahs, we had games like this. The whole system is just hugely digestible. Hopping onto the service takes seconds you'll play new songs you haven't heard before and constantly move forward through Guitar Hero TV's various progression hooks. You're losing some curation, for sure, but there's so much room for discovery just by channel surfing. On the other, I've played more songs for free through Guitar Hero TV than I've ever bought in a rhythm game before. Guitar Hero Live is pretty liberal with its distribution of Plays, dishing them out in gracious quantities every few levels or so - but it likely won't be enough if you're hoping to repeatedly practice some tracks to perfection. On one hand, this completely pulls the rug out from under hardcore players who try to master songs on their hardest difficulties. There's also an option to spend real-life cash on a Party Pass, which lets you play whatever songs you want in the full roster for 24 hours. It's one of a few currencies in Guitar Hero TV, which you'll unlock either through leveling up, through spending the coins you'll earn after each performance or with real-life money. If you want to play a song of your choosing from the catalog, you have to expend a "Play" to do so. It's not a game where you'll eagerly await new content drops, spend your cash on your favorite songs and add them permanently to your library. Here's the hump you have to get over to enjoy Guitar Hero TV: You can't actually purchase and own new songs through the platform. Between the music videos that back each song and the slick interstitials between every few tracks that briefly showcase new additions, the presentation has a classic MTV vibe that really suits it. Those songs are offered up in a much different presentation than the first-person FMV of Live, but they're not lacking in polish. It makes for an insubstantial setlist, but given the game's sole focus on guitars, you're at least guaranteed they'll have some pretty fun riffs. Nearly all of the 42 songs in Live were released in the 2000s - save for a single three-song set, none of the tracks could really be considered "classics." It makes sense in the context of the game, as seeing those fictional bands singing Queen and Rolling Stones tunes would require a hefty suspension of disbelief. Those fake bands have a lot of character, but the need to match them with real counterparts limits the playlist somewhat. Strong performances unlock bios for each member of the band, allowing you to learn more about the drummer for Vivid Screamr, or how the lead singer of The Jephson Hangout got their start. The love FreeStyleGames felt for these fictional bands is evident in the detail that went into this presentation. Audience members hold up giant signs (which I'm pretty sure they don't let you bring to music festivals), which offer nonsensical proclamations like, "Soooooo excited right now!!!" It's as preposterous as it is endearing, and it's infinitely preposterous. This pseudo-self-parody peaks with the pop-punk outfit Yearbook Ghosts, whose members literally skateboard onto the stage. Each band is almost a cartoonish simulacrum of the real-life bands they're imitating. But it's a much more charming treatment than any virtual audience or band has ever provided.įirst off, there's a self-awareness to the whole thing that keeps it from being even remotely cringe-worthy. It's a seven-layer cheese ball, with cheese-flavored crackers for dipping. If that sounds cheese ball, you're right, it is. Both parties react differently to the quality of your playing, with the video feed sparkle-wiping between adoring and jeering crowds, depending on how well you're shredding. The whole campaign is presented in honest-to-God full-motion video, all filmed from the perspective of an on-stage guitarist, whose view pans nervously between their roaring audience and calm, cool, collected bandmates. You fill the role of guitarist across a handful of fictional bands playing at two fictional music festivals, all the while playing non-fictional songs. Live is the more traditional of the two components, although that's not exactly a fitting descriptor. The guitar doesn't look like the rhythm controllers you're used to, but even more substantial changes can be found in Guitar Hero Live's two modes: Live and TV. The tilt sensor is occasionally a bit overeager to deploy your Hero Power, but otherwise, it feels really well-made. It's got a nice weight to it, with a satisfyingly clicky strum bar that leaves no doubt to whether you've strummed. The different rows of buttons are clearly textured, which makes learning how to move between them a bit easier. The guitar itself is one of the better plastic axes I've held.

When Intel developed a new instruction set for what would eventually become its Itanium product line, a decision was made to develop a new initialization and boot infrastructure. Using API abstraction layers and C code, UEFI can be fully optimized and maintain compatibility across frameworks. UEFI specifications were developed to standardize the code base and take modularity into account. Three Pivotal Features Differentiate Bootloading Options Windows 8 Goes Far Beyond The Typical Operating-System Update Legacy BIOS implementations were created with the assumption that the platform hardware would remain constant however, the introduction of more powerful processor technology required handwritten workarounds to its assembly code. One significant challenge with legacy BIOS is that it was originally defined by implementation, as opposed to a specification within a modular code base. Legacy BIOS: Limitations, Less-Supportive Modern Coding Languages Having non-standard interrupts led to fragmentation and difficulty for vendors attempting to create operating systems (OSs) for universal booting. Sometimes these changes fit in cleanly, but often they were clunky additions to the original codebase.Īn obvious example of an over-expanded interrupt is interrupt 0x15, which ultimately became a dumping ground of manufacturer-specific features. As the PC evolved to incorporate new technologies, these interrupts were expanded to provide services for the new hardware. Examples include Interrupt 0x10 for video, 0x13 for fixed-disk access, 0x16 for keyboard input, and 0x14 serial -port accesses. Interrupts ranged from 0x10 to 0x1F, and were originally planned to handle one device each. The original IBM PC BIOS interfaces relied on a set of interrupt routines to complete basic tasks. In contrast to projects like OpenFirmware, legacy BIOS has no governing body. The 1-MB limitation resulted in a mere handful of supported external boot media. Any plug-in cards designed as bootable, network, or RAID cards were required to fit into an outdated memory model. In this execution model, the total amount of memory that could be referenced and used was limited to 1 MB. Legacy BIOS executed a majority of its code in real mode. Support for new technologies was crammed into an already-crowded memory space. As the rest of the technological world was developing projects like OpenFirmware, the x86 world still used a technology rooted in the original IBM-compatible PC. The transition to UEFI firmware from legacy BIOS came at a time when it was long overdue. These include USB, hard disks greater than 100 MB, RAM sizes greater than 640k, high-speed Ethernet networking, CD-ROMs, and other unforeseen technologies. To understand the transition from legacy BIOS to UEFI firmware, it’s best to begin with a review of a decades-old system-the 1983 IBM-compatible PC-and continue with a study of its successor technologies. The transition from legacy BIOS to UEFI firmware is something many embedded developers now need to deal with as new hardware supports UEFI.

Go this way, climb some platforms until you arrive at one with red lights and open away. The right path is your objective to continue with the raid, but the left path is the gateway to our second secret chest. It will fork here with a path going left and one going right. As you’re making your way to the chamber, you’ll eventually come across what appears to be some big blades. Now you come to the brief moment of respite in which you engage in some easy-enough platforming and repel the threat of a few enemies as you head to the chamber. By this point, you should’ve negotiated the blizzard, disabled the security, and defeated Atraks-1. Once you’ve advanced much further into the raid, you’ll soon find yourself with a missable second secret chest. 10 stacks of Frost and you’re toast, frozen toast. Keep climbing and you’ll find the chest hidden away in a small alcove.īe warned though, as you jump across these ledges the propensity for frostbite is still very much in effect. What you actually want to do – before entering the final door – is to find a series of ledges to climb up behind you to the left. However, we don’t want to do that just yet. Your number one priority here, usually, is traversing the adverse conditions, avoiding becoming an ice cube, and reaching the door to the first encounter. Your first foray into this marathon sees you piloting your Sparrow through a frostbite-inducing storm. The first chest is actually going to surface very early on in the Deep Stone Crypt raid.
